A significant safety initiative has been launched by Ford Motor, impacting over 270,000 vehicles. The recall affects certain models of the Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick pickup trucks from specific production years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that these vehicles are equipped with a type of battery that may fail unexpectedly, leading to potential loss of power and increased risk of accidents. Owners of these affected models will need to have their vehicles inspected and potentially have the batteries replaced free of charge.
The automotive giant has identified a critical issue concerning the 12-volt batteries in some of its newer models. Vehicles involved in this recall include the 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs and the 2022-2023 Maverick pickup trucks. These batteries, manufactured by a Chinese company, have shown signs of internal failures which can lead to sudden malfunctions while driving. This problem could result in the failure of essential electric-powered features such as hazard lights and even cause the vehicle to lose driving power or stall at low speeds after an automatic stop/start event. Such failures significantly increase the risk of crashes and injuries.
Despite the potential dangers, Ford has not yet received any reports of accidents, fires, or injuries directly related to this issue. Nevertheless, the company is taking proactive measures to ensure customer safety. Affected owners will receive notifications via mail by early February and are advised to visit their nearest Ford dealership for a complimentary inspection and battery replacement if necessary. Vehicles previously repaired under a different recall will also require the new remedy to be completed.
To address the concerns of vehicle owners, Ford has established a dedicated customer service line for inquiries regarding this recall. Additionally, individuals can verify the status of their vehicles through the NHTSA recall database or other reliable sources. Ensuring the safety and reliability of these vehicles remains a top priority for the manufacturer.
